parentsKlub: Search. Share. Socialize
How does parentsKlub Work?

Here are few steps you can follow to know how parentsKlub works:

Step 1: Add friends to your network.

Ask your friends and family members to join you in parentsKlub. Once they sign-in, they become part of your network. When people in the network rate an item, a trust level is calculated for that item. You can view the trust level when you search for that item.

To add friends to your network, sign into parentsKlub, go to Profile, and click the Invite link. You can view friends in your network only if they sign-up.

Step 2: Identify an item.

You might want to know what your friends or family thinks about an item. An item can be a doctor, a school, a nanny service and so on. You can identify an item by searching for it. If the item does not exist, you can add the item to the parentsKlub database and even earn points. Go to the Share page to add an item.

Step 3: Ask your friends to rate the item.

You can ask your friends to rate an item by connecting with them in the Forum. You can also view people who replied to you on the Profile page. Go to the Replies link to view messages from others in the network.

Step 4: Check the trust level for the item.

To know the trust level of an item, simply look up the item on the Search page. You can even see how the trust level was calculated and who rated the item.

Step 5: Let us know what you think.

What Amazon Doesn’t Provide, parentsKlub does!

There are a million websites that provide you information about stuff. They let you rank a business, an establishment, or an institution. These rankings are provided by people from around the world with a varied background. For example, a person in Arizona might have a different set of expectations when rating a winter coat than from a person in upscale New York. The item remains the same, but the perspective of rating the item might vary. The person in Arizona might be evaluating the coat in terms of its durability and cost while the person in New York might be more conscious of fashion. We have the same item here – a winter coat – to be evaluated, but our audience is very different.

What if you can get together similar thinking folks sharing a common background to rate that coat? For example, as a fashion designer, you can invite your co-workers and fraternity members to rate the winter coat. Chances are that your friends will rate the coat based on fashion, durability, and cost, material, and ethical considerations (fur coats are not cool). You end up with a more realistic ranking based on similar perspective of the item.

If you apply this same logic to parenting, the benefits are obvious. You create your own network by inviting liked minded folks from your immediate circle of family and friends. You ask these people to rate an item, such as a school, a doctor, or a business and thus form a trust level for each item.

So what is trust level? Trust level is a patented means to evaluate an item. People invite friends to form a network. Their friends invite other friends and a network is formed. You identify with people in the network by your degree of connection or connection level to that person. Each friend within the network is attributed a connection level. A connection level determines if a friend is a first level acquaintance or comes in the second or third level.

A first level acquaintance is a person directly connected to the user. Similarly, second level connection are those who are connected to your first level connections (friend of a friend in other words) and third level connections are those who are connected to your second level connections (friend of a friend of a friend in other words).

http://www.parentsKlub.com is a new parenting website that allows you to do just that – evaluate key items related to your kids based on trust level. In addition, parentsKlub allows you to add a school or a doctor to the rating system and offer that item to be rated by your network. Sharing items on parentsKlub adds to the information repository and enables parents to make educated decisions about things related to their children.

Social Networking Site for Parents

So you are bored of Facebook. Same friends, same status updates eulogizing vacations and new love conquests, and unending pictures from the fairy tale life? You are now a parent and you have better things to worry about, such as schools for your kids, vacation destinations, babysitters, homework, and so on.

Let’s say you are looking for a good school for your 3 year old.

How are you sure that Google will return you the best, most reliable, and trust worthy information? Chances are that it won’t. So what do you do? You go to several parenting sites or forums on the Internet and look for information. The quality of information that you find on these sites are usually unreliable and not good enough to give you a direction for your research.

Now consider if you can form your own online network and invite friends, relatives, and acquaintances to join you in the network. You can ask these people to rate an item, such as a school or doctor and based these ratings each item is awarded a trust level. A trust level is much more authentic than general rating because the rating is done by people you know.

To add to it, you are allowed a cool social networking interface - say Facebook for parents. Would you like to have a social networking site just for parents? No useless status messages, no lewd updates. Just plain talk about kids.

What do you think? If you think that’s a good idea or even otherwise, go to www.parentsKlub.com.

parentsKlub allows you to invite people you trust (friends, relatives) and form your own network. These people then rate each item, such as schools, doctors, babysitter, and so on. When people from your network rates each item, the parentsKlub rating engine assigns a trust level to that item ranging from 0 to 10.

Trust level is different from regular ratings because it is done by known people. Chances of bogus or paid rating is drastically reduced and you get a genuine indication of what people you know feel about a certain item.

parentsKlub: Search, Share, Socialize!

My friend RK and I were discussing about how difficult it is to find trusted information on the Internet. We do have tons of information out there on everything, but is the information trust worthy? Perhaps yes; perhaps not. By trust, I mean information validated by our friends, co-workers, and family. Trusted information gains higher precedence when it comes to our kids. For example, if you are looking for a pediatrician, you probably would be more confident to go to a pediatrician validated by a friend or co-worker. Since we did not find a website or a mobile app that provides trusted information, we decided to build one. That is how parentsKlub was conceived.

What is parentsKlub?

parentsKlub is a platform for like minded parents to search, share, and rate kids’ related information online. Parents can also socialize by discussing topics of common interests and asking questions related to schools, doctors, babysitters, and other categories of information.

Scope

To keep things simple, parentsKlub concentrates only on 12 information categories. These include:

  • Schools
  • Doctors
  • Play School
  • Nanny
  • Crèche
  • Tuition
  • Clothing
  • Books
  • Vacations
  • Fun
  • Toys
  • Extra Curricular

Currently parentsKlub is available only in nine locations across India including Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Gurgaon, NOIDA, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Pune.

How does parentsKlub work?

Data on parentsKlub is fed by parents, vendors, and parentsKlub employees. Parents can share data about a good school or a reliable doctor through the parentsKlub website (www.parentsKlub.com). On entering complete information about a business (school, doctor, or toy store), a parent earns a single point. When the count reaches twenty, a gift is sent to the parent as a token of appreciation for contributing to the site. Parents can choose a gift from the ten or more options available.

However, simply sharing data does not make information trust worthy. To bring in the trust factor, parentsKlub allows users to invite friends and form a network. Each friend within the network is attributed a connection level. A connection level determines if a friend is a first level acquaintance or comes in the second or third level.

A first level acquaintance is a person directly connected to the user. For instance, if a user invites a few friends to join parentsKlub during registration, these people become first level connections. Similarly, second level connection are those who are connected to your first level connections (friend of a friend in other words) and third level connections are those who are connected to your second level connections (friend of a friend of a friend in other words).

How is trust level calculated?

When a friend from the network rates an item, the trust algorithm kicks in and checks the connection level of the friend and the rating provided. Based on this data, the algorithm calculates the trust level of each item viewed by the user.

The parentsKlub mobile application for android

parentsKlub also has a mobile application for Android smart phones.
